While looking for a black designer to write about, I mostly came across rappers turned fashion designers, who ultimately gave up on their lines. One of the few names that I did stand out to me was Ms. Tracy Reese. She has been a fixture in the fashion world for quite some time with more than 20 years of experience and 15 years of managing her own line that speaks to a lot of women, including first lady Michelle Obama.
Her casual, extremely feminine clothing line is for the everyday ‘real’ woman. She creates pieces that can flawlessly transition from the runway to the sidewalk. In her Spring/Summer 2012 Collection she shows off plenty floral colors that speak to the season. Mostly consisting of skirts and dresses, the very few pant pieces are awkwardly unique with side pockets and mesh pieces that look very comfortable for the very active woman.
Her line can be found in stores like Tracy Reese, Anthropologie, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Scoop, with several of these located in the Metro-Atlanta area. Check her out and let’s support one of our own!
