Stop being so one-dimensional!
We all know how the saying goes, “If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you always get.”
That saying stands so true in so many facets of our lives. We have got to get out of the simple mind-set of things. We need to take our thinking beyond the small confines of what we grew up seeing and hearing and open ourselves up to the new possibilities that surround us everyday.
For example, how many of you listen to anything other than rap, r&b, and gospel? That’s all you grew up listening to, so you don’t know any other genres that are much better than rap. We all think that we are obligated to listen to these types of music and that if we don’t then we’re disgracing ourselves. That is so not true. My range of music is so much more than those three, and because of that it has allowed me to enter different realms of life that many of us didn’t know existed.
If you only party in 3 spots in Atlanta, you are missing out on some of the best hangouts in the world (yes, i said the world)! People travel here to take part in a lot of the larger parties thrown at the well-known places but it’s those low-key places that will give you the best memories and stories that you’ll probably tell your kids when they’re grown.
And let me be clear, this is not a one-sided argument. I’m not only saying that AA’s are the only ones suffering from what I would call an “identiy-crisis” but many other races have the same issue.
When you enter these different places, you get a look at a different culture that may embrace you altogether more so than your current one does. Don’t be so quick to judge the other cultures if you’ve never been in their world to see what it’s like. Take a chance, they’re more welcoming than you think!
