WTF??!!-The Poor Calvin’s Experience

12 Jun

Last week I reached the illustrious age of 31 and I am very grateful to have made it thus far in my life. To celebrate my day, I decided to try a new restaurant in the city and of course come back and tell you guys about it (kill two birds with one stone, right?). Upon searching for a restaurant to fit this magnanimous occasion I began my search for the perfect place. While doing so, I stumbled upon this small gem located on Piedmont Ave in Midtown Atlanta. I’d never given this place much thought as I have passed it numerous amounts of time, but something about it drew me in this time around. As I think back, I don’t know what stopped me before from eating here. Whatever the case, I’m glad I chose this place this time around!

As I arrived on Friday night for my evening reservation, I noticed that the placed was already crowded, so much so that I had to park on the street. I was a bit leery of that at first but as I entered my fears were quickly put to rest. Immediately greeted by Rosetta, the hostess, I was quite pleased with the initial atmosphere. While she prepared the table for our large group, I took a seat at the bar and met James the bartender. He was funny and charismatic and took his job very seriously! We conversed about his specialty cocktails which all included Absolut Vodka and what he considered to be his best drink. As the conversation went on our table became ready and we moved our party there. James promised that our drinks would be to us soon and they wouldn’t disappoint. Once they arrived, I quickly realized that James was not joking about the greatness of the drink! I must say that after dealing with many bartenders, they all seem to boast themselves up as being the greatest ever, but after that night James should be the only one holding that title! Never stingy on the pour, each and every drink that was made for me or anyone else in my party were absolutely (pun intended) on point!

As we ordered the appetizers, we decided to all get something different so that we can experience as much as possible here. What a great idea! Duck Egg Rolls, Chicken Dumplings, Fried Zucchini, and Lobster Macaroni and Cheese lined our table to our delight. Hand rolled egg rolls with duck breast meat and a sweet Asian infused dipping sauce was amazing. The chicken dumplings left me speechless! Nothing like your mom’s dumplings! And the sweetness of the lobster in contrast to the creamy paprika seasoned macaroni and cheese left us in shock. Although I’d have lobster mac n’ cheese before, it was nowhere near as tasty as what was served to me this night.

As I moved to the entrée, I decided to go with the Chicken Siam. Teriyaki glazed chicken and pineapple chunks with cashews and an array of steamed vegetables with Jasmine rice absolutely blew my mind. It was seasoned beyond belief, steamy, hot and tangy just the way I like it!

Overall I give this place a 9. The ambiance, food, and service were all great. The only problem was the fact that they had very limited parking and Piedmont Avenue is a one way street. If you get a chance to go to the restaurant, make sure you come back and let me know what you think of the place!
